Cheers, to a new chapter
Last month, we toasted a new chapter for Pender Ventures with the launch of PTIF II. A massive thank you to everyone who came out to North Point Brewing Café to raise a glass!
While there’s certainly nothing wrong with indulging in a bit of a celebration, last month’s event also gave us a chance to step back and reflect on the path that led us here, and to get energized for the road ahead.
If there’s one thing we’ve learned in the last five years (23 years for some of us!), it’s that the world of venture capital is anything but predictable. We closed our first fund in 2018, and since then, it’s been a whirlwind. Like so many others, our team has faced challenges amidst the massive disruptions and changes that have swept the world. But amidst the chaos, there have been some truly amazing moments. We invested in a dozen incredible companies, 9 in PTIF I and 3 so far in PTIF II, and saw them reach some impressive milestones, including PTIF I portfolio holding Copperleaf Technologies’ IPO in 2021!
Looking back on it all, I couldn’t be more proud of what the team has achieved. It all goes back to the vision we started with in 2018: to invest in companies that not only have strong fundamentals but also make a tangible and positive impact on the world.
This was an incredibly special event for our team. It was wonderful to reconnect with familiar faces, and it was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.
I want to sincerely thank all of our current and past team members for their hard work and dedication. I also want to share my heartfelt appreciation to our LPs who have shared and supported our vision, and to all of those who have championed us and provided us with invaluable guidance and support over the years. Without this support we wouldn’t have the privilege to invest in the many great founders and entrepreneurs who we view as our customers.
We may still be in an uncertain time for founders and investors, but our dedication to supporting the most innovative and inspiring founders remains unwavering. We have some very talented new faces on our team, our pace of new investments remains steady and we’re still actively seeking out new opportunities. As we look at the next five years, I believe there are many reasons to be excited.
